full ankle coverage, a rugged stitched or vulcanized sole, and drainage at the instep —
and must NOT be waterproof. Rain gear must be genuinely waterproof;
ponchos are banned because they're
dangerous in a capsize.

Pack light — you carry all of it. Everything goes into crew portage packs and over your shoulders at
every portage. Northern Tier supplies over $5,000 of group gear (tents, stoves, cook kit, canoes, paddles, life
jackets, food, saw, shovel, bear ropes and more) — so don't duplicate it.
